URSUS – Ambassador of the Polish Economy

On 23 September 2015 URSUS has been awarded with the title of the Ambassador of the Polish Economy in the “Export” category. The award was granted by the Business Centre Club. URSUS received the award for its success in the export markets and for its promotion of Poland abroad.

- The Ambassador of the Polish Economy award is a source of pride for me and everyone from the company. ”When, in 2011, we decided to take over the bankrupt URSUS plant and to invest in the revival of a brand with a 120-year history and a once powerhouse in the Polish motor industry, few believed that we would succeed. Today Ursus is an export brand which is successfully conquering ever more markets throughout the world", said Karol Zarajczyk, the President of URSUS S.A.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Economy Janusz Piechociński,  who was the host of the awards ceremony, commenting on the award, drew attention to the company’s success on the African market: “I would like to warmly congratulate URSUS because it makes a considerable contribution to the development of Polish export. Through its expansion in Africa and the sale of its products, the construction of an assembly plant at Adama in Ethiopia – there by creating new jobs there – URSUS is showing other Polish companies that business can be done there. It is showing how to attract partners in the global economy and how to share with others, because anyone who does not do so loses” - said Janusz Piechociński.

URSUS is strengthening its position in Africa.

The company is successfully strengthening its position on the African market. In 2012 it entered into a contract with the Ethiopian METEC for the supply of tractors, equipping service centres and the supply of spare parts.          On 12 May 2015, an assembly plant for URSUS tractors was opened in Adama. Its employees were trained by Polish engineers and technicians. The signing of the contract was preceded by a bilateral cooperation agreement between the governments of Poland and Ethiopia. The Ethiopians received a loan from the Polish BGK bank for the purchase of our products.

On 26 August 2015 URSUS signed another contract with the Ethiopians – this time with the Ethiopian Sugar Corporation – for the supply of tractors, trailers and spare parts for the transport of sugar cane. The contract worth U$ 30.6m includes an option to increase the value of the order by 25% by the end of September 2015. The order will be completed in Q4 2015 and in Q1 2016.

URSUS is expecting further expansion into other promising foreign markets. Significant partners for URSUS are companies operating in Scandinavian and Easter markets and in countries such as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Belgium, Holland, Slovenia and Croatia to which it already exports the full range of its products.
